What exactly is a serum?
Unfortunately, the importance of a serum is not always clear to people.
What exactly is a serum and what does it do for your skin? Serums usually contain higher concentrations of active ingredients. This can help to tackle specific skin problems, such as dry skin, pigment spots, large pores or sensitive skin.
A serum with the right ingredients can also be very effective against skin aging. Technically, a serum is a thin substance that is applied before a cream, so before you apply a moisturizer and sunscreen.
What exactly does a serum do for your skin, do you really need a serum and which serums with effective ingredients such as vitamin C, hyaluronic acid and retinol are suitable for your skin? You apply a serum in the same way as a cream.
However, be careful to reduce the amount so that you don't get sticky skin. And always apply it with slightly damp hands .
The ingredients in serums are highly concentrated, so you need less of them. With serums, impurities and a dull texture can be specifically tackled. The serum then places a thin layer of filter on your skin and protects it without making your skin shine. Do not confuse a serum with a weekly treatment such as a peeling or mask.

What does a serum do?
Serums are essentially skincare products designed to deliver high concentrations of a specific active ingredient to the skin, such as hyaluronic acid, vitamin C, or Granactive Retinoid, a derivative of retinol that is more tolerable to the skin. A serum penetrates extra deeply into the upper layers of the skin. This is due to higher concentrations of active ingredients and often thinner texture than creams. This makes serums ideal to wear under another product.
There are serums that feel as liquid as water and there are serums that feel more like light lotions. The packaging of a serum also varies; from small bottles with pipettes to pumps.
At Layzin we use Airless dispensers . These are special pumps that do not allow air to get to them, or in other words, oxygen. This is very important, because some ingredients react with oxygen and therefore lose their effectiveness. Vitamin C is an example of this. With an Airless dispenser you can prevent this. You can also dose better with these pumps, so that you prevent waste.
How do you use a serum?
Serums have a lighter texture, making them easy to layer under your other skincare products. The rule is to start with the thinnest formula and end with the thickest formula, a rich moisturizer and hydrating cream with SPF. UV rays and pollution have an impact on your skin. And it’s always in the air.

Which serum do you need?
What is a serum that will really work for your skin and how do you know? Determine your skincare goal in advance. Then find a serum that contains the ingredients that match your desire.
Don't overload your skin with too many active ingredients, but choose a few that really work for you.
Most of us know that hyaluronic acid has an effective moisturizing effect that reduces fine lines.
Granactive Retinoid, a derivative of retinol, stimulates the production of collagen and elastin, making the skin more resilient and firmer. Fine lines are significantly reduced.
But Vitamin C, among other things, ensures that spots and pigmentation are tackled. Niacinamide (vitamin B3) ensures a reduction of sebum, which means that the pores are less likely to become clogged and therefore enlarge. For sensitive skin, the sensitive skin that shows redness, ceramides are very desirable.
All Layzin serums are provided with a beautiful combination of active ingredients that really do something for your skin. Convince yourself. And try them yourself…
