How to get rid of pigment spots
Pigment spots or hyperpigmentation are common and involve visible pigment formation in the epidermis, your upper skin layer. Pigment is the substance melanin that is produced in the epidermis by pigment cells. There are various causes of hyperpigmentation:
- Melasma: this form is caused by hormonal changes. In most cases this is seen during or after pregnancy, this is mainly expressed by pigment spots on the face or on the stomach.
- Sunspots: This form of pigmentation is very common and is mainly seen in the summer months. They generally appear as spots on areas exposed to the sun, such as the hands and face. However, it can also occur due to the use of a tanning bed.
- Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation: This is the result of an injury or inflammation of the skin. A common cause of this type is acne, but can also be caused by treatments such as peels or lasers.
In all forms, there is essentially an overproduction of melanin, which becomes visible in your top layer of skin.
How can you prevent hyperpigmentation?
It is not always possible to prevent hyperpigmentation, as in the case of melasma. Sunspots and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation can be prevented to some extent.
- Always protect yourself well against UV radiation by using at least SPF 30 .
- minimize the use of a sunbed.
- avoid damaging your skin when squeezing pimples. Ideally, have this done by a beautician.
How can you treat existing pigment spots?
Fortunately, there are many options to reduce or eliminate existing pigment spots. Depending on how stubborn the spots are, a more intensive approach may be necessary. At Layzin we offer the following solutions:
- Layzin Serum 02: this serum contains Vitamin C and E, among other things. The combination of these two vitamins is a powerful tool for reducing existing pigment spots. Vitamin C inhibits melanin production by reducing the effect of the enzyme Tyrosinase . Vitamin E strengthens your skin and repairs damage caused by UV radiation. Serum 02 also contains Granactive Retinoid: this substance is also effective against pigment spots, because it has a slightly peeling effect, which removes accumulated pigment from the surface.
- Layzin Collagen Complex : Although collagen is mainly used to rejuvenate the skin, many people also see improvement in pigment spots. Studies are also slowly but surely showing that it may have a positive effect on reducing pigment spots.
- Layzin Dermaroller 0.55 mm: a dermaroller is a tool that allows you to apply microneedling. Microneedling is very effective in reducing pigment spots, especially in stubborn cases. This more intensive approach also often works better for melasma than applying just a serum. If you really want to get rid of your pigment spots quickly, we recommend the combination of the Layzin Dermaroller 0.55 mm with Serum 02.
- Layzin Power & Protect cream SPF 30: this powerful cream can be used to prevent pigment spots. It offers protection against UV radiation through SPF 30. In addition, it also contains Vitamin E, which helps to reduce existing pigment spots.
