How do you use a serum?
More and more often you come across them, serums. But what is a serum and how do you use a serum? Our skin experts will answer these questions in this blog and also give various tips to get the most out of your serum(s).
What is a serum anyway?
Serums are lightweight skin care emulsions that contain a higher concentration of active ingredients than other skin care products. They are usually thinner in consistency than moisturizers.
Serums are developed in such a way that the molecules are smaller, allowing the active ingredients to penetrate deeper into the skin.
When do you use a serum?
A serum is generally intended to address a specific skin problem. Think of dry skin, skin aging or pigment spots.

What is the difference between a serum and a moisturizer?
Although most serums will hydrate your skin to some extent, there is still an important difference with a moisturizer. Precisely because serums are thinner, the active ingredients can penetrate the skin faster and deeper. Also, due to this good and fast absorption, they do not leave a sticky (layer) on your skin.
A moisturizer, on the other hand, is mainly intended to hydrate, repair and protect the skin. These generally feel a bit thicker (and richer) than a serum and leave a noticeable layer on the skin after application.
This layer also forms a protective barrier against the elements. Important ingredients in moisturizing creams are ceramides (fats) and humectants (wetting agents). Also, in a cream the active ingredients are present in a lower concentration than in a serum.
How do you use a serum correctly?
With the right use, a serum is a valuable and (almost) indispensable part of your daily beauty routine. And with our tips, you too will succeed in using the right serum in the right way.
TIPS from Monique, the skin expert:
Before you buy a serum, consider your skin's needs. Serums are usually not the cheapest item in your skincare arsenal due to their high concentrations of active ingredients.
So it is important to choose a serum that does what your skin needs.
In short, does your skin need hydration, or is it sensitive and blotchy? Maybe your skin is getting older and you need a serum that prevents wrinkles. Based on this, choose the serum that best suits your skin question. At LAYZIN we have various serums that suit the various skin questions.
Now that you have chosen the right serum, it is important to apply your serum in the right place in your skincare routine. Some people think that when using a serum, because of its high concentration, they no longer need to use a moisturizer. But that is not true! So how do you use a serum correctly?
The correct order of your beauty routine is as follows:
First, cleanse the skin with a mild cleanser.
Then use a toner to prepare the skin for your care products.
Apply the serum.

How do you apply a serum?
If you use a serum, or want to start using one, read Monique's tips here/
> Monique recommends always applying LAYZIN serums with slightly damp fingers.
>> Use a small amount and spread it lightly over the face with your fingertips.
>>> Let this soak into the skin for a while.
>>>> Finally, finish with a good moisturizer with SPF (minimum factor 30) ! Even in winter, a cream with a protection factor is indispensable, because UV radiation can also cause a lot of damage to the skin.
So, if you use a serum, don't forget your moisturizer afterwards!
Some more tips for choosing a serum
How to use a serum for specific skin issues? As described earlier in this blog, it is very important to choose a serum that suits your skin.
Most serums will state what they specifically target, but by checking the ingredients you can be sure that this is true.
Are you looking for a hydrating serum to care for your dehydrated skin?
Then pay attention to the presence of vitamin E and Hyaluronic acid .
And preferably the combination of high molecular hyaluronic acid and low molecular hyaluronic acid such as in LAYZIN SERUM 01 .
This combination of types of hyaluronic acid ensures that the hydration of your skin is boosted both on the surface and deep down.
Do you use a serum that helps reduce and prevent wrinkles?
Then pay attention to the presence of vitamin C and Retinol . Because Vitamin C plays an important role in collagen production and Retinol activates the production of skin cells, collagen and elastin.
However, Retinol can irritate the skin, so it is advisable to choose a serum that contains a better form of Retinol : Granactive Retinoid .
This has the same skin improving properties as retinol, but has a much lower chance of irritation.
And another advantage is that Granactive Retionoid can be used for a longer period of time.

Do you have sensitive skin that quickly becomes red and blotchy and do you use a serum?
Then choose a serum with more suitable ingredients that soothe the skin. And also strengthen the skin barrier. Think of Jojoba Oil, for example , that softens and protects the skin.
Niacinamide is also essential to calm the skin and reduce redness. In LAYZIN SERUM 05 for sensitive skin, you will find these two important ingredients combined with some other gentle but active ingredients.
The question of how to use a serum has been extensively addressed here. If you still have questions about how to use a serum after reading this blog, please contact our experts via info@layzinskin.com
